The iPhone is a foodie’s dream phone for researching, finding, and cooking the best food out there. Take a look at out top picks, which are all free!
1. Urbanspoon
Urbanspoon is without a doubt my all-time favorite app. Lock in your neighborhood, desired cuisine, or price level and shake to see where you should eat. No restaurant with a bad rating is included, so everything that the app serves you is a good bet. Use it to expand your tastes- easily find the best Ethiopian, Peruvian, or Turkish food in your area.
2. OpenTable
If you want to be sure you won’t have to wait or pin down your plans beforehand, check out OpenTable. OpenTable takes your current location (or one that you give it), and finds restaurants nearby with open reservations at any time you specify. Then you can make the reservation online, avoiding hard-to-hear calls and misheard information.
3. Chipotle Ordering
Not all foodies are fine foodies. If you have a craving for the perfect burrito, open up Chipotle Ordering and find your nearest location. Put in your customized order, pay by credit card, and pick up at the restaurant without waiting in line. You can save all your favorite combinations or access them from the web if you want to order from a computer. Obtaining burritos should probably not be this easy…
4. AllRecipes.com Dinner Spinner
Not sure what to make for dinner? With Dinner Spinner you just put in a main ingredient, a type of dish, and how long you have to prepare it- then see as hundred of matching recipes pop up. Like Urbanspoon, only top-rated matches are even included in the app so you don’t have to worry about duds.
5. Hello Vino – Wine Pairing Guide
Hello Vino is the easiest way to get fool-proof wine pairing suggestions. You can find wines by meal, occasion, taste, or region. Not only does Hello Vino give you a type of wine to aim for, but specific tastes. For example, pair pesto pasta with a Shiraz with blackberry, plum, and pepper flavors.
Thanks, Claire & Megan, we’re honored to be included in your Top 5 Apps for Foodies list!!
We’re also glad that the free Hello Vino app could help you with a wine pairing for pesto pasta – it’s all about discovering and enjoying great wines with the food you love.
Cheers!
- The Hello Vino Team
The inclusion of the Chipotle app? Genius. Pairing wines is nice, but so is pounding a massive steak burrito with extra guac and sour cream.
