5 iPhone Apps for a Night Out

So, you’re planning to head out this weekend, but not sure where to go? These iPhone apps will help you find the hottest hangouts and also make sure you get back in one piece. Bonus: they’re almost all free.

Not sure where to start out (or finish) your night? This app will suggest what you should do based on time, day of the week, your mood and company. For example, maybe It’s Friday, late night, somewhere in SF, and I want to dance with a date. UrbanDaddy will tell me where to go. Like all such apps perfection is too much to ask for, but if nothing else you can admire the app’s slick design.

Foursquare lets your virtually check-in to locations you’re visiting and share this with your friends. Use the app to find out where your friends are hanging out and also check what’s “Trending Now” to find out where the hot spots are. As you check in you’ll earn “badges” that allow you to prove how awesome you are (or how addicted to your phone you are…).

This app helps you keep track of how much you’ve had to drink in the night so you make sure you don’t have too much. It claims to track your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) using a profile based on gender, age, height, and weight. I definitely wouldn’t trust that the BAC is 100% accurate, but this app can be helpful to make sure you stay within general limits.

Honestly, you probably don’t need this app because it performs a very simple service. It finds taxi companies near you and gives you the number to call, but honestly when it’s late and you just want to get home, that’s a lifesaver. Also, it lets you know if the taxi service accepts credit cards.

You probably already know about Yelp, but, just in case you don’t, go download it now! Yelp has reviews on restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and just about anything else you’d want to go to. At any given time it’ll show you popular and well-reviewed places near you.
